TVET Council and Assessment Boards Inaugurated

State House, Nakasero  — The Minister of Education and Sports, Hon. Janet Museveni, on Thursday inaugurated the newly established Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Council and TVET Assessment Boards in a landmark event held at State House, Nakasero.

The inauguration follows the passing of the TVET Act 2025, a transformative legal framework aimed at reforming the TVET sub-sector to better align with modern workforce demands and the Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4) on inclusive and equitable quality education.

Earlier, Hon. Museveni praised the TVET Act 2025 as a “key instrument for providing strategic direction and guidance” in modernising technical and vocational education.

She said TVET is vital for equipping Ugandans with the practical skills necessary to meet the demands of a rapidly changing job market because it enhances employability, drives productivity, and ultimately contributes to increased economic growth.

TVET Council Members Inaugurated

The newly sworn-in TVET Council will oversee policy, financing, and licensing of private institutions involved in technical and vocational education. It will also play a central role in managing the broader operations and quality assurance of the sub-sector.

Council Members include: Mrs. Allen Kagina – Chairperson, Mr. Sikander Lalani, Mr. Douglas Opio, Eng. Ziria Tibalwa Waako, Dr. Tonny Tumwesigye, Ms. Jean Byamugisha – CEO, Uganda Hotel Owners Association (UHOA) and Mr. Diriisa Ssekitoleko.

The ceremony was attended by Permanent Secretaries, senior education sector leaders, and representatives from the private sector, emphasising the collaborative, multi-stakeholder approach the Ministry is taking in reforming vocational education.
