The Tokosa Food Festival has come to draw increasing interest among Kampalans especially foodies who enjoy exploring culinary varieties. The festival is a blend of entertainment, merrymaking, food vending and tasting and a premium family outing.

“It gives me great pleasure to announce the 4th edition of the Shell Tokosa Food Festival geared towards celebrating a vibrant food culture as well as an avenue to promote culinary experience in Uganda,” said Mr. Gilbert Assi, the Managing Director VIVO Energy Uganda.

He further noted that for a third year, the proceeds from the festival will go towards supporting Bless a Child Foundation, an organization that aims to provide improved childhood cancer care services so as to help the terminally ill children.

However, this year, Grace Villa a charity orgabization that offers support to the needy young girls has been brought on board as a beneficiary.

“It’s important to let you know that Grace Villa started the Wateeka initiative to offer free lunch to school going children that may not afford,” Assi said.

“And as VIVO Energy, we have decided to offer the Wateeka initiative a fully furnished Shell Gas Kitchen with a year of supply of free Gas which will cultivate a culture of using a safe, affordable and clean cooking solution,” he added.

He applauded the various partners who have come onboard to see to it that the two charities are lifted, given the work they have done to support worthy causes.

The festival also offers an opposrtunity for users to switch from old gas packs to better cooking solutions as opposed to those using charcoal and electricity that come with a hidden cost.

He stressed that deforestation is big threat to our environment and conversion to modern cooking solution is the way to go simply for being clean and smoke free.

“We want to help reduce on the heavy reliance on wood fuel as the main source of energy for cooking while protecting the environment and secondly be able to improve health of especially women through reduced exposure to smoke”.

According to the 2014 national Housing and census Survey, 71% of the household used firewood for cooking with 85% in rural areas and about 31 in urban centers. This shows a decline in the usage of firewood from 82% as registered in 2002.
