The topmost policy organ of the ruling political party, National Resistance Movement (NRM), CEC has subjected Anita Among (Bukedea Woman MP), Thomas Tayebwa (Ruhinda North) and Robinah Rwakoojo (Gomba West) for election by members of the party’s parliamentary caucus for the position of deputy speaker of the 11th parliament.
Impeccable sources now reveal that CEC has made no decision over the trio but opted for an election for the party’s flagbearer by the NRM Parliamentary Caucus.
CEC earlier on Sunday dropped the outgoing speaker of parliament, Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga in preference of her deputy, Jacob Oulanyah for the position of speaker. He is reportedly the only candidate for Speaker.
CEC’s decision on the two positions was first presented before NRM Caucus composed of NRM Members of Parliament and Independent-leaning MPs before voting kicked off.
The members of caucus are using using secret ballot in choosing one out of the three candidates for Deputy Speaker.
A total of 337 NRM MPs in the 11th parliament on the NRM ticket are taking part in deciding who will be the speaker and the deputy for the next five years.
This is a developing story…
