Tight Race as IUIU Kampala Campus Readies for Guild Elections 

The Islamic University In Uganda, (IUIU) Kampala campus is preparing for its Guild elections set for April 29.

The E-elections will see Students elect their leaders for the coming one year. (2023/2024).

Speaking at the Guild Campaign Debate held at the campus in Kibuli, Hajati Nakawooya Aisha, the Dean of Students, requested the candidates vying for the different positions, to remain calm.

She further requested those who will emerge as winners to control their emotional excitement in order to handle negative repercussions.

“Those who will lose accept defeat, whenever we have people who are standing we expect winners and losers, this is a beginning for a new chapter and in UIUI, we train an overall all around person and this is just a beginning in your political careers,” she said.

She noted that they organized the debate to show confidence and competence of the different candidates who are aspiring for the different positions, but also for the students to differentiate who is able to take leadership for the academic year 2023/24.

During the debate, Nabanja Shamira, a contestant for the Lady Vice President promised to bring on board a leadership that will champion students needs.

Meanwhile, her competitor, Nankinga Jalia, promised to promote cultural diversity among the IUIU community since the university hosts students from different parts of the world. 

She said she will create activities that will bring together all cultures and nations at the University.

For the Guild President, Nangeje Abubekar one of the contestants, said he is looking at creating a trust fund empowerment to enable students who always face tuition and financial challenges next to Examination but also continue to foster the relationship and unity between Ugandan students and foreign students.

On his part Abdul Wadud Bayo, also a guild aspirant, promised a Collaborative governance between the students and the university management, with a diverse leadership but as well create a guild fund that will give helping hand to the fellow students, through student led initiatives like circular economy with the Kibuli Community among others.
