Team Uganda Returns with 9 Medals from CAA Africa Championships

Team Uganda safely landed at Entebbe International Airport Monday evening to a warm welcome from officials and supporters after a stellar performance at the CAA Africa U18/U20 Athletics Championships held in Nigeria from July 16–20.

Led by Assistant General Secretary for Administration at the National Council of Sports (NCS), Mr. Oluka Joseph, officials received the triumphant juniors who proudly return with a total of nine medals — 4 gold, 1 silver, and 4 bronze.

The 19-member contingent showcased exceptional talent and determination throughout the five-day championship, firmly placing Uganda on the continental athletics map.

Uganda’s Medal Winners:

🥇 Gold Medals:

Samuel Simba Cherop – U20 men’s 10,000m

Bentalin Yeko – U20 women’s 3000m

Charity Cherop – U20 women’s 5000m

Nancy Chepkwurui – U20 women’s 1500m

🥈 Silver Medal:

Risper Cherop – U20 women’s 5000m

🥉 Bronze Medals:

Brenda Chekwemoi – U20 women’s 1500m

Samuel Simba Cherop – U20 men’s 5000m

Jacob Sande – U20 men’s 1500m

David Berkham Otim – U18 men’s Long Jump

The delegation’s success is a testament to Uganda’s growing strength in athletics, particularly among the youth, and reflects the results of continued investment in sports development.
