The first batch of Team Uganda has officially departed for the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, with 21 athletes and several officials flying out to represent the country on the global stage.
The flag-off ceremony was held earlier on Wednesday, marking the beginning of Uganda’s campaign at one of the most prestigious events in international athletics. The team includes both seasoned athletes and rising stars expected to make a mark for the country.
World champion Joshua Cheptegei expressed confidence in the team’s readiness and determination to perform well at the championships.
“This team, actually, is a very strong team. So, be assured that even without me and Jacob Kiplimo, the team is in good spirits,” Cheptegei said in a message shared on social media.
