Ugandan sprinter Tarsis Orogot has won his 200m heats securing a spot in the semi-finals at the ongoing Paris Olympics.
With a blistering time of 20.32, Tarsis Orogot on Monday dominated his 200m heat, crossing the finish line in first place and booking his spot in the Paris 2024 semi-finals.
“This historic moment marks Uganda’s return to the Olympic sprint scene, following in the footsteps of Davis Kamoga’s bronze medal win at Atlanta 1996,” said the Uganda Olympics Committee (UOC).
It added: “We are thrilled to witness this achievement and cheer him on to further success.”
Tarsis Gracious Orogot gained his first experience at international championships in 2021 when he finished fourth in the 200m dash at the U20 World Championships in Nairobi in 20.57s.
He set a Ugandan national record in the semi-finals with 20.37s.
Meanwhile, Winnie Nanyondo has finished 10th with a time of 4:07.06 in the 1500m Heat 3.
She will now compete in the repechage, seeking a spot in the semifinals.
