Tanzania’s Finance Minister, Philip Mpango has been proposed by President Suluhu Samia as the next Vice President of the country. Parliament has vetted and ratified the proposal.
A video of Mpango, who was maskless and in a coughing fit, while he addressed the press went viral late February. The video drew wide condemnation as Mpango who was not wearing a mask, was flanked by a doctor and a hospital director – both also maskless. He had called the presser to announce he was being discharged from hospital after 14 days being treated for a respiratory problem.
Suluhu nominated Dr Philip Isdor Mpango at an executive meeting of the ruling party Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM).
