Ten civilians have been confirmed dead following an attack carried out by suspected members of Uganda Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) militias in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo on Sunday night, Congolese army official said on Tuesday.
The attack took place on the town of Mbau, killing 10 civilians and two others were wounded, according to region’s army spokesperson Cpt Mak Hazukay.
The leader of ADF Jamil Mukulu was arrested recently and is battling treason-related charges in Uganda court. His group has been accused of killing, maiming hundreds of civilians in DR Congo.
“The army is still pursuing the attackers,” Hazukay said. Dozens of militias both local and foreign have terrorized the eastern DR Congo and government has failed to eliminate them over the years.
