Prominent Ugandan businessman Dr Sudhir Ruparelia, the Founder and Chairman of the Ruparelia Group, has issued a stern public warning about a fraudulent account on X (formerly Twitter) impersonating him under the handle @RupareliaSudhi.
In a statement released on Wednesday evening, Dr Ruparelia made it unequivocally clear that he does not own or operate any account on the platform and urged the public to disregard any content from the said handle.
“It has come to my attention that a fake account impersonating me has been created on X (formerly Twitter) under the handle @RupareliaSudhi. I would like to categorically state that I do not own or operate any account on X. Any communications or posts from that account should be disregarded as fraudulent and misleading,” the statement reads.
Dr Ruparelia also called on members of the public to exercise caution, report the impersonating account, and help stop the spread of misinformation. “I urge the public to treat this account with caution and report it to the platform for immediate action,” he added.
The Ruparelia Group, a conglomerate with interests spanning real estate, finance, hospitality, education, and agriculture, is one of Uganda’s most influential business empires. Dr Ruparelia, a respected entrepreneur and philanthropist, has often kept a low profile on social media.
This warning comes amid a growing trend of online impersonation and digital fraud, especially targeting high-profile individuals in Uganda and across the globe. The public is advised to verify sources of online information and refrain from engaging with suspicious accounts.
