Kawempe North Member of Parliament, Hon Muhammad Ssegirinya, says it is surprising that he is not yet recorded in The Guinness World Records book.
Ssegirinya was appearing on the “NBS Eagle” political show alongside Hon Mubarak Munyagwa, Gorreth Namugga, Rogers Mulindwa and Kafeero Ssekitoleko. The show is hosted by Simon Kaggwa Njala.
“I am the only Member of Parliament in Uganda who had a 5-year manifesto but executed all of it in two months,” said Ssegirinya while answering the question: “Will the efforts to amend the electoral reforms yield results?”
He added: “I am still surprised that The Guinness World Records hasn’t acknowledged this achievement.”
Ssegirinya who recently left prison said although he is out now, he still lost time.
“I don’t think I will ever forget the two years I spent in prison.”
Commenting on the recently concluded NRM Kyankwanzi Retreat, Ssegirinya said the National Resistance Movement (NRM) MPs are now leveraging the National Unity Platform leader, Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine’s popularity to gain favour with the president and secure resources to counter Kyagulanyi’s mobilisation efforts.
“Kyagulanyi is now the main cash crop. This is not the first time these NRM people are going for a retreat in Kyankwanzi, but there are no resolutions made to benefit the people of Uganda,” he said, adding:
“Recently, some MPs welcomed me back to Parliament, and one of them promised to give me something after returning from Kyankwanzi.”
According to Ssegirinya, the opposition gathering at Munyonyo was focused on discussing electoral reforms, particularly in light of the perceived unfairness that occurred during the last election.
“Many discussions and proposals in the country often fail to be implemented by the government. However, the decisions and electoral reform suggestions made during our gathering at Munyonyo will be put on record.”
On his part, NRM spokesperson, Rogers Mulindwa, said some opposition members don’t appreciate Ssegirinya’s approach to addressing the needs of his constituents.
“In Kyankwanzi, President Museveni emphasized the issue of mobilisation. Mobilisation isn’t only about going to radio and TV; it’s about going down to the people, understanding the issues they are facing, and devising means to solve them.”
To him, the gathering of the opposition in Munyonyo “was solely for accountability purposes regarding the money that is always allocated to them by the government”.
“I want to echo that President Museveni will be on the 2026 ballot paper without any other family member. NUP doesn’t have the moral authority to discuss electoral and constitutional reforms as they are still struggling to streamline its own constitution.”
Museveni and Muhoozi
According to Hon Kafeero Ssekitoleko, President Museveni and his son Muhoozi Kainerugaba are the same people.
“Muhoozi is bringing back the youth to NRM, and I don’t think Muhoozi will stand against the father.”
He went on: “I still support Museveni. The Muhoozi Movement has helped us neutralise the youth. This helps us pass on our movement ideology to the youth.”
He said the leaders at Kyankwanzi focused on discussing ways to progress the country and address the issues affecting the people.
“They aim to find solutions and propel the nation forward. Up to now, as NRM, we still believe that Museveni is still our best candidate. But there are organs in NRM such as NEC and CEC that still have a decision to make.
Gorreth Namugga, on her part, strongly believes that electoral reforms are necessary for the country.
“It is disheartening to witness instances where certain individuals fail to acknowledge and respect the outcomes of elections, refusing to declare the rightful winners,” she said.
She added: “This country can never move forward if we don’t have a full separation of the institutions of government. The Judiciary, Executive, and Legislature have to be able to execute their roles.”
