Spanish Journalist Sadurni Carrasco Sumaya Dies in Kiryandongo Accident

A Spanish journalist working in Uganda has died in a fatal road accident along Kampala-Gulu highway in Kiryandongo District.

The accident happened on Monday March 7, 2022 at around 8:30pm.

ASP Faridah Nampiima, PRO Traffic and Road Safety, identified the victim as Sadurni Carrasco Sumaya, 33, a Spanish by nationality and a journalist working with the International Press Association of Uganda Kampala.

Sumaya was travelling in a RAV4 car registration number UAS 597U with her Mugisha Thomas, 42, when they came into a head-on collision with a Fuso truck registration number UAL192U.

Sumaya and Mugisha died on the spot while the Fuso driver escaped after the accident.

The Police at Chopelwo valley has stepped up efforts to have him arrested.

ASP Nampiima said the bodies of the deceased have been conveyed to Kiryandongo Mortuary for post-mortem examination.
