Bengaluru, India — Sarah Chelangat, a Paris 2024 Olympian and double Youth Olympics gold medallist, has won the women’s event at the TCS World 10K Bengaluru 2025.
Chelangat broke away just after two kilometres and never looked back. She powered through the halfway mark in 15:23 — 20 seconds clear of her nearest rivals — and extended her lead relentlessly to finish in 31:07.
Chelangat and Olympic champion Joshua Cheptegei, who won the men’s race, made it a historic double for Uganda. It was the first time Ugandan athletes captured both titles at the prestigious Bengaluru event.
Although she missed the event record by over 30 seconds, Chelangat was delighted with her performance.

“When we were running, I felt the pace was a bit slow,” she said. “I thought, why don’t I push and try to finish in first position? I came in feeling confident and believing I must win the race.”
Behind her, Kenya’s Cintia Chepngeno edged out Ethiopia’s Guteni Shanko by less than two seconds to claim second place in a dramatic sprint to the finish.
In the Indian elite section, Abhishek Pal and Sanjivani Jadhav emerged as the top domestic performers in the men’s and women’s categories, respectively.
With this powerful showing in Bengaluru, Sarah Chelangat’s star continues to rise, signalling a bright future for Ugandan athletics.
