The man identified as Victor Twinomujuni, 19, a son to one Jackson Ndyabangi was a resident of Rwarubaya cell Nyarurambi parish Muko sub-county in Rubanda district.

The accident occurred at around 10am on Wednesday morning.

Twinomujuni was mining sand at a quarry belonging to Isaac Turyahikayo when the incident occurred.

According to Police spokesperson for Kigezi, Elly Matte, a protruded section of the quarry collapsed and covered the deceased killing him instantly.

The body of Twinomujuni was later retrieved by Police and taken to Kabale referral hospital mortuary where postmortem was carried out.

“This was an illegal mining incident which nevertheless is unfortunate. Community members have been warned several times by Police from using that quarry for illegal mining because it endangers their lives,” Matte said.

He said that anybody found mining sand in the area in question will be apprehended and prosecuted accordingly.
