President Museveni has promoted Maj. Gen. Sam Kavuma to the rank of Lieutenant General and appointed him the Force Commander of the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS).  

“The MODVA is pleased to announce the promotion of Maj. Gen Sam Kavuma to Lt. Gen and appointment as Force Commander ATMIS in Somalia,” said Defence Spokesperson, Brig Gen Felix Kulayigye.

Lt Gen Kavuma also serves as the Chairman of the Board of Governors of Wazalendo Savings and Credit Cooperative Society Ltd and the Deputy Coordinator of Operation Wealth Creation (OWC).

He replaces Lt Gen Sam Okiding who was appointed deputy Chief of Defence Forces (CDF).
