Munyonyo — Philanthropists Dr Sudhir Ruparelia and Jyotsna Ruparelia have announced 100 full scholarships to outstanding students of Victoria University, in loving memory of their late son, Rajiv Ruparelia.

The emotional gesture was unveiled during the university’s 9th Graduation Ceremony, held on Tuesday at the Speke Resort Convention Centre, Munyonyo. The scholarships will go to the best-performing undergraduate students of the 2025 graduating class to pursue a Master’s Degree.

Victoria University described the scholarship as a heartfelt tribute to Rajiv’s enduring spirit of generosity and mentorship. “So many lives were shaped by his generosity — what a beautiful way to keep his legacy alive,” the university posted on X (formerly Twitter).

The event, themed “The Future of Work: Competence, AI, and Global Readiness”, was attended by several dignitaries, including His Majesty William Wilberforce Gabula Nadiope IV, the Kyabazinga of Busoga, who served as the Chief Guest, and Dr Sudhir Ruparelia, the university’s Founder and Chairman, Board of Directors.

Preparing Students for the Future of Work

In his address, Dr Lawrence Muganga, the Vice Chancellor of Victoria University, emphasised the institution’s commitment to competence-based and technology-driven education.

“By 2030, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is expected to create 170 million new jobs, while about 92 million existing ones will disappear. At Victoria University, every student receives free AI training so they are prepared to excel in the future,” Dr Muganga said.

He noted that Victoria University has been recognised globally for its innovative learning approach, including an award from Afro Global Television in Toronto, Canada, and recognition by the Parliament of Canada for its contribution to Africa’s human capital development.

“We were already ahead of the curve when the call came for universities to adopt competence-based learning,” Dr Muganga added.

A Milestone Moment

The graduation marked a historic milestone for the university, as it celebrated its first-ever cohort of law graduates. The Victoria University Law Society congratulated the pioneer class for “setting the precedent and laying the groundwork for all future law students.”

The university also congratulated all graduands for their resilience and excellence, noting that the event reflected its growing reputation as one of Uganda’s most innovative higher learning institutions.

“We have scaled new heights of excellence. Congratulations to all our graduands on this remarkable achievement,” the university said in a statement.

On Tuesday, October 28, 2025, Victoria University graduated 2,500 students, cementing its role in shaping Uganda’s education space through its blend of technology and experiential learning.
