The territorial Police at Kira Division are currently investigating the death of a pilgrim who was heading to Namugongo Martyrs Shrine.
ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy PRO KMP, identified the deceased as Arinitwe Jackline, 49, a peasant from Katokori Village, Kyanarwa Parish, Katanda sub-county in Rubirizi District.
The incident happened on Monday, May 30, 2022, at about 11:30am in Namugongo Parish, Kira Municipality Wakiso District.
The deceased was among the 90 pilgrims who were trekking from west Ankole diocese for the martyrs’ day celebrations slated for Friday 3rd June.
Owoyesigyire said her body has been conveyed to the city mortuary Mulago for Post-mortem to help establish the exact cause of death.
“The police would like to convey their condolences to the family of the deceased person and also advise all pilgrims to always rehydrate in a way of taking enough water and also have enough rest during the pilgrimage.”
