According to a witness, the missing boy had been playing with his peers when an unidentified man took off with him.

Now Police has reported that the boy was rescued today with the help of the locals in Kacerere village Rubaya sub county in Kabale district.

The Kigezi Police regional spokesperson, Elly Matte said “we worked tirelessly with the parents as the suspect was ringing that he knew where the kid was”.

Today morning, the kidnapper contacted the family demanding a ransom of Shs 7 million. He claimed he was in Kanungu district which prompted the Police to track the call.

“We used GPS tracking system which showed that he was around Ryakarimira township in Rubaya,” Matte said in a statement.

The suspicious residents noticed the kidnapper who was in company of the boy which made him wary. It is at this point that he abandoned the boy together with the sport bike he had and took off to the bush.

But people mobilized other residents and smoked him out of a hide out in Kacerere forest.

The suspect is currently detained at Kabale police station but he has not been cooperative.

“I want to warn those who are kidnapping people and those kidnapping themselves that we shall not let you go free. We are investigating and whoever will be found to be involved will be apprehended and answer charges accordingly,” Matte said.
