The new Member of Parliament for Kibanda North, Hon. Idi Amin Taban took oath on Tuesday, the 05th of September 2017 and re-joined Parliament.

Taban, who lost his seat through a court petition in June, swore to “be faithful and bear true allegiance to the Republic of Uganda and to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution.”

He also swore to “give faithful service to Parliament and support and uphold the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda as by law established.”

The Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Jacob Oulanyah, asked Ugandans to reflect on President Yoweri Museveni’s support for the grandson of Idi Amin Dada.

Oulanyah, said that a newspaper picture that showed President Museveni together with Taban atop a vehicle during campaigns for the by- election could not be taken for granted as it spoke largely to the nature and gift of the people of Uganda.

“It showed the fact that Uganda has a way of re-inventing itself even after crises. As a country, we should celebrate these kinds of things,” said Oulanyah.

Taban joins the House after two other PWDs MPs: Hon. Hood Katuramu (NRM, Western) and Hon. William Nokrach (NRM, Northern), who took oath last week.

The Leader of the Opposition, Hon. Winfred Kiiza welcomed Taban to the House and appealed to the President to highlight the good deeds done by President Idi Amin during his presidency in the 1970s.
