Quality Chemical Industries Limited (Qcil), Uganda’s leading pharmaceutical manufacturer, has held its annual medical camp at St. Stephen’s Church of Uganda, Luzira. The event commemorated World Malaria Day 2025 and aimed to intensify efforts to end malaria in the community.
This year’s global theme, “Malaria Ends With Us: Reinvest, Reimagine, Reignite,” emphasizes the need for renewed efforts to eliminate a preventable and treatable disease that claims a life every minute, predominantly in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Kakooza Fred Andrew, Qcil’s Chief Finance Officer, emphasized the company’s commitment to the fight against malaria, stating, “At Qcil, we are not just manufacturers—we are partners in the fight against malaria.”
He called for collaborations and partnerships from stakeholders, adding, “Together, let us work towards a healthier and malaria-free future.”
The medical camp offered a range of services, like free malaria testing and treatment, distribution of insecticide-treated mosquito nets, pediatric care, antenatal services, diabetes and hypertension screenings, and free eye check-ups.

Malaria remains a leading cause of illness and death in Uganda, especially among children and pregnant mothers. According to the Uganda National Institute of Public Health, 37,195 malaria-related deaths were recorded in 2023.
Harrison Kiggundu, Qcil Head of Human Resource, highlighted the company’s mission to improve the quality of life by increasing access to effective, affordable medicines, particularly for vulnerable populations.
Founded in 2005, Qcil is the largest producer of WHO-prequalified antimalarial treatments in Sub-Saharan Africa.
