PostBank Uganda, soon to be rebranded as Pearl Bank Uganda, has been awarded the prestigious Sustainability Certification by the European Organisation for Sustainable Development (EOSD), underscoring the bank’s commitment to advancing sustainable finance and fostering prosperity for Ugandans.
The certification handover ceremony took place in Germany on September 25, 2025.
Based in Germany, EOSD is a globally recognised leader in promoting sustainable development across sectors, with a special focus on the financial industry. Through its Sustainability Standards and Certification Initiative (SSCI), EOSD collaborates with institutions worldwide to integrate sustainability into their operations, promote responsible banking practices, and foster resilient economies while protecting the environment.
The SSCI framework sets rigorous standards that distinguish truly impact-driven financial institutions from those yet to embrace sustainability fully. By achieving this certification, PostBank Uganda has demonstrated its commitment to responsible banking and established itself as a regional leader in sustainable finance.
Speaking about the recognition, Julius Kakeeto, Managing Director of PostBank Uganda, said the certification aligns with the bank’s five-year strategy launched in 2024 to transform into a purpose-led, sustainable business.
“As an indigenous bank, PostBank is committed to fostering prosperity for Ugandans through advancing sustainable financial inclusion and stimulating entrepreneurship,” Kakeeto noted. “Our focus is on powering SMEs to drive economic transformation in priority sectors, create jobs, and build a high-value economy. Sustainability is now embedded across our strategy, products, services, and operations — enabling us to go beyond profits and deliver lasting impact on society, the economy, and the environment.”
He further highlighted Wendi, the bank’s digital wallet, as a key tool in driving sustainable financial inclusion: “With Wendi, every Ugandan with a mobile phone can save, invest, pay bills, and send or receive money domestically and internationally — quickly, affordably, and securely,” he said.
On behalf of EOSD, Arshad Rab, CEO and Chairman of SSCI, applauded PostBank for aligning its strategy with the global sustainability agenda.
“More than ever, customers and partners want to associate with purpose-driven financial institutions,” he observed. “This certification proves that profitability and sustainability can go hand in hand. Institutions like PostBank are leading the way in creating economic value, social good, and environmental stewardship.”
The recognition follows PostBank’s success earlier in June 2025, when it won five awards and 11 certificates at the Bank of Uganda’s Agriculture Credit Facility (ACF) and Small Business Recovery Fund (SBRF) ceremony — including Best Performing Bank under both schemes. These accolades highlight the bank’s inclusive approach to agricultural financing, which is essential to Uganda’s broader development agenda.
PostBank — soon to be Pearl Bank Uganda — is positioning itself as a leader in building a sustainable financial ecosystem that delivers for people, the planet, and prosperity.
