PostBank Uganda has concluded a three-day Green Finance Training aimed at boosting the bank’s capacity to support climate-smart enterprises and align with global sustainability goals.

The training, held at Onomo Hotel in Nakasero, was conducted in partnership with the Uganda Green Enterprise Finance Accelerator (UGEFA) and adelphi, with funding from the European Union Delegation to Uganda.

The intensive programme brought together over 30 PostBank staff, equipping them with practical skills in financing green small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), mapping climate risks, and designing innovative green financial products.

Driving the Green Finance Agenda

Speaking at the training, Caroline Andama, PostBank’s Head of Public Sector, highlighted the role of financial institutions in accelerating sustainable development:

“Financial institutions like PostBank avail capital through loans, grants, and other financial instruments that can influence industries by funding sustainable initiatives, driving decarbonisation, and addressing social challenges like poverty or inequality. This lays a foundation for achieving the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).”

Partnership for Sustainable Growth

Christine Meyer, Project Lead of UGEFA and Head of Programme Green Entrepreneurship at adelphi, lauded the collaboration with PostBank and other partner banks:

“We provide tailored training to financial institutions and collaborate with them to facilitate the flow of green finance into Uganda’s SME sector. Together with our partner banks, we navigate climate risks and leverage green finance opportunities.”

She added: “Through our joint funding facility, we harness the potential of green SMEs to deliver positive social and environmental impacts. We are looking forward to jointly driving forward the sustainable development agenda with committed partners like PostBank.”

Launch of UGEFA Partnership Phase II

The training concluded ahead of the official UGEFA Phase II Partnership Launch at Protea Hotel, Kololo, where PostBank joined other partner banks, EU representatives, and stakeholders to unveil the next phase of the initiative.

Speaking on behalf of PostBank Uganda, Caroline Andama (Head of Public Sector) reaffirmed our commitment to building a greener and more resilient Uganda.

“Through this collaboration, we are working closely with UGEFA, the European Union, adelphi, and partner banks to catalyse green financing, empower enterprises, and safeguard the future for generations to come,” she noted.

She emphasised that this partnership goes beyond finance—it is about creating impact, transforming what was once considered waste into opportunity, and enabling climate-smart solutions for SMEs. “Together, we remain committed to turning vision into action and impact.”

With new skills in green finance, PostBank Uganda is now better positioned to expand its green loan portfolio, support sustainable SMEs, and contribute to Uganda’s low-carbon, climate-resilient future.
