Police Summon MPs Ssegirinya, Ssewanyana For Questioning over Masaka Murders

Makindye West MP, Allan Ssewanyana and Kawempe North lawmaker, Ssegirinya Mohammad have been summoned by police for questioning on the mysterious murders in the greater Masaka subregion.

Copies of summons seen by SoftPower News dated Friday September 3, have been written by Paul Katto Tumuhimbise on behalf of the Director Criminal Investigations.

“The Directorate of Criminal Investigations is investigating some murders which took place in Greater Masaka during the months of July and August 2021. This serves as summons for you to appear at Masaka Police Station on Monday 6th September 2021 at 1000 hours be D/SSP Moses Taremwa for a statement in respect to the said investigations,” reads the summons in part.

Rampant killings have taken place in a couple of districts the subregion including Masaka, Lwengo, Bukomansimbi and Rakai from the months of June to last month. Authorities say at least 26 people have mysterious been killed.

The killers who hit the victims on the head with blunt objects, drop anonymous letters alerting their targets that they are coming for their lives, which they consequently effect.

Most of the murders happened better 8pm and 10pm, according to police, by way laying the victims as well as attacking vulneroble people in houses.

The murders are not motivated by proprietary gain since nothing is token from the victims, according to Internal Affairs Minister, Maj Gen (Rtd) Kahinda Otafiire.

Otafiire on August 30 told Parliament that the criminals in some few incidences used snatched phones of victims, to communicate to the relatives of the victims.

“Whatever the motive, the intended effect is to couse fear, terror and apprehension in the public,” said Otafiire in a statement, adding that even then, the killings are indiscriminate.

The minister said that their preliminary investigations indicate that the criminals use motor-cycles and foot to move as testified by some survivors.

Security has since apprehended a number of suspects whose cases are being processed for prosecution as well as effecting joint operotions with in small squads manning check points and searching for suspects.

They have also apprehended and checking motor cycles and motor vehicles moving of night for suspected individuals as well as intensifying intelligence for related lead information.
