Uganda Police Force has summoned Mityana Municipality MP Francis Zaake to CID Headquarters in Kibuli over alleged treason and escape from lawful custody during the Arua Municipacity by-election.
Police have written to Zaake through the Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga, in a letter dated November 16, 2018.
Police states that they are conducting inquiries into “Treason Vide Arua CRB 344/2018 and escape from lawful custody vide Arua CRB 344/2018.”
“You are therefore in pursuance of the provision of Section 27A of the Police Act (As amended)) required to appear before the Deputy Director Investigations at CID Headquarters, Kibuli on November 21, 2018 at 0900 hours who will guide you on the next course of action,” the Police Director for Criminal Investigations, AIGP Grace Akullo, penned.
Upon learning of the Police summons, Zaake took to his Facebook page saying he would report to CID as he is a law abiding citizen.
“I have been summoned by CID office Kibuli to make a statement regarding what transpired in Arua, as a law abiding citizen of Uganda I will surely report there on Wednesday 21/11/2018 at 9:00am in the company of my lawyers and colleagues,” Zaake’s post reads.
Zaake was arrested alongside Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine and 33 other suspects during the Arua by-election fracas and accused among others for leading a procession that pelted President Museveni’s convoy with stones.
Zaake was later found admitted at Rubaga hospital where he complained of injuries on the neck. Police said he had escaped from a hospital where he was taken for treatment during custody. Zaake was later released on police bond and cleared to travel to India for medical treatment.
