A total of 8 suspects out of the 40 people that were recently arrested in connection with the murder of former Case Hospital accountant, Francis Ekalungar have been charged with murder and aggravated murder, Police say.

The Police Spokesperson, SSP Emilian Kayima said that Police has Monday submitted the case files of the eight people to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for prosecution to commence.

Kayima said that this follows “progress” made in the investigations into Ekalungar’s brutal murder which took place earlier this month.

The eight include; Mawa Muzamiru (driver of Case Hospital proprietor), Nalunga Resty Gorret, Kiwalabye Huzairu (brother to Boda Boda 2010 leader, Abdullah Kitatta), Yoga Deo and two private security guards of Case Hospital; Mulema Hamza and Chandia Vincent.

The others are two Congolese nationals; David Bizimani Fazil David and Kikandi Muhindo who are said to be refugees.

Days after the arrests, some of the suspects had led security agencies to a compound where the vehicle Ekalungar was driving prior to his death was found.

“We have progressed in the investigation. The file is almost complete. The case file has been submitted to the DPP today and it has 8 suspects,” Kayima told journalists on Monday.

“We have reason to believe that the eight who are in our custody have questions to answer in relation to the murder of Francis Ekalungar,” he said.

However, when asked as to whether the leader of Boda Boda 2010 was free from the charges, Kayima said that no charges have been preferred against Kitatta as yet.

“Kitatta is not among those charged with murder. I don’t know where he falls. We are directed by the investigations, so where they take us, that’s the course we follow,” he added.

Meanwhile, Police has resumed scrutiny of all case files on complaints previously lodged against members of the Boda Boda 2010 group.

“The Kampala Metropolitan Police CID has recalled all the files of those who filed complaints against Boda Boda 2010 and they are being studied. So far, we have received 35 files but 16 of these show that the complaimts were dealt with conclusively,” the Police spokesperson said.

This comes days after 18 of the 40 who were arrested in joint operations by security agencies a week ago were released on Police bond.
