Police in Wakiso is Investigating former presidential candidate Lt. Gen. (Rtd) Henry  Tumukunde for allegedly assaulting a casual labourer in Wakiso District.

It is Alleged that General Tumukunde on September, 19 at Muduuma in Wakiso district assaulted Jasimwa Willy 29, a labourer with “Enkoni” accusing him of trespassing on his land.

“it is alleged that the Gen, further threatened more harm if he ever got Jasimwa or any other person Back on land without his permission,” The Criminal Investigation Directorate spokesperson Charles Twiine said.

Twiine said the Victim was a casual labourer to Namusisi Betty who has an unresolved land dispute with Gen Tumukunde.

Tumukunde is a politician and retired senior military officer of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF).

On March 3 2020, Tumukunde declared that he will be challenging President  Museveni for the presidency in 2021.

In a press briefing, Tumukunde attributed his decision to the fact that the NRM party and Yoweri Kaguta Museveni were not ready to discuss a peaceful transition of power.

He ran as an independent candidate for presidency in the 2021 Ugandan general election but lost to the incumbent, Museveni.

He was the Minister of Security in the Cabinet of Uganda, appointed to the position on June 6 2016, On March 4 2018, he was relieved of his duties in an unexpected cabinet reshuffle.

He is also a qualified lawyer, he has served as the UPDF’s chief of personnel and administration, chief of military intelligence as well as a commanding officer of the UPDF Fourth Division, based in Gulu in the Northern Region of Uganda.

He also served as the Director-General of the Internal Security Organisation (ISO). Tumukunde was also a member of parliament representing the Army in the Parliament of Uganda between 1995 and 2005.
