Col Ndahura Atwooki the Director of Crime Intelligence in the Uganda Police Force has been withdrawn by the military to immediately cease his services to the Police.
The development was confirmed on Wednesday by the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) Spokesperson, Brig Richard Karemire.
Brig Karemire only revealed to this website that; “His [Ndahura] tour of duty has come to an end”.
When contacted by SoftPower News, sources within the military that preferred anonymity given the sensitive nature of the issue revealed that the action against Col Ndahura was due to his illegal dealings including espionage and plotted murders.
“He has a criminal record of extorting money from investors and suspects, selling information to foreign agents and carrying out their operations in Uganda,” the source told this website.
The Colonel who was a right hand man of fired Inspector Gen of Police, Gen Kale Kayihura is also accused of using his power to facilitate murders at the request of some businessmen in Kampala.
“He is always hired to eliminate people in business wrangles. He had also been approached to assassinate senior govt officials”.
The source describe the now ex-Director of Crime Intelligence as a “hitman” who also had a central involvement in the alleged torture of Kamwenge Mayor, Geoffrey Byamukama.
For some, the move by the army to recall the embattled Colonel a week after former Inspector General of Police, Gen Kale Kayihura was sacked by President Museveni might not be coincidental. Some say the rogue manner of operation by the likes of Ndahura and other Senior officers like Nixon Agasirwe and Joel Aguma was only sustained by the fact that they were in sync with the Police leadership.
Col Ndahura tried several times to stand surety for Aguma, Agasirwe and other officers who are currently charged with the kidnapping of Rwandan refugees and unlawful possession of military stores.
Last year in December, this website broke a story on a group of Rwandan refugees living in Uganda who were blocked by Police officers at the Kikagati border while traveling to Tanzania for religious fellowship.
Police officers who blocked the group told our reporter that they had orders from Col Ndahura to stop the refugees from moving into Tanzania. The orders had reportedly been issued to Ndahura by the IGP on behalf of authorities in Rwanda.
One of the police officers at the border said he did not want problems with Col Ndahura as he hurriedly engaged Tanzanian immigration authorities to have the refugees’ entry cancelled.
Col Ndahura’s recalling from Police follows a series of fresh appointments and restructuring in the Police Units and Directorates, effected by the new IGP, Okoth Ochola to clean up the Force.
Ndahura formerly served in the Presidential Protection Unit (now Special Forces Command) and later in the Special Revenue Protection Services, and the Presidential Guard Brigade.
