Police on Saturday rounded up 250 suspects from a guesthouse in Kagadi, who had gathered to attend a birthday party. The suspects included both adults and juveniles.
The suspects were attending a birthday party organized by Joachim Ategeka in contravention of the ban on social gathering as part of the COVID-19 containment measures. Some of them were found drinking alcohol.
The suspects who were arrested at around 11p.m were immediately whisked to Kagadi central police station where they are being detained on charges of negligent act that is likely to spread an infectious disease. But the police wants to release them with a caution because they are too many to be safely kept in the cells.

Now the Kagadi RDC wants the guesthouse immediately closed and the management apprehended.

She says though Guesthouses have been allowed to operate, they have not been allowed to hold parties and therefore called for stringent action to be taken against the management.

Police earlier said that they are planning to caution and release the suspects on police bond since they are unable to accommodate them in the police cells.

The management of the Guesthouse have since fled to an unknown destination following the arrest and detention of hundreds of people at their premises.

In January, Police in Hoima arrested 14 people who were allegedly participating in a dance party.

The Hoima dance party that attracted over 200 people took place in the home of Rogers Kansiime, a resident of Kidoti cell in Hoima East Division.

Police raided the party venue around 2 am and arrested 14 suspects. They also impounded the music system and 10 motorcycles that were found parked at the party venue. URN
