Police Arrests 2 Over Murder of Tycoon Kirumira’s Brother, 1 on the Run

Police is holding two people to aid investigations into the murder of Ivan Baker Kirumira, a brother to city tycoon Godfrey Kirumira of the Kwagalana business group.

Ivan Kirumira 40, a younger brother to Godfrey Kirumira was brutally killed on Sunday at 2am in his home in Kireka, a Kampala suburb. The assailants stabbed him in the neck and later wrapped his body in a carpet and dumped it in the deceased’s car, a Land Rover Discovery Reg No. UAM 502B.

Police spokesperson SSP Emilian Kayima told journalists on Monday that police was notified and it rushed to the scene. Subsequently, two people have so far been detained to assist police identify the murderer(s).

The two are a 17-year-old and a 12-year-old both of whom shared a house with the deceased. Their identities will be concealed since they are minors.

“We are questioning two people in connection with the murder, but the third person – an occupant of the residence is on the run,” SSP Kayima said at a news conference held at Central Police Station in Kampala.

The person on the run has only been identified as ‘Ken’.

“The twelve year old girl has given us insightful information which we believe will help us find the murderers. She said she heard screams but had no idea what was happening,” he added.

According to Kayima, the assailants also took off with an unspecified amount of money. He said that police suspects that the murderers had the intention of driving the corpse away and dump it somewhere to divert the attention of the investigation.

“Our technical teams are working with Police in Kira and we shall follow leads to have the suspects apprehended,” Kayima said.

Eye witnesses said the deceased’s body was cut into pieces several times by unknown assailants before being wrapped in a carpet.
