PM Nabbanja Breaks Ground for Pathogen Economy Bioscience Park in Nakasongola

Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja has launched the construction of the 150-acre Pathogen Economy Bioscience Park at the NEC T6 Industrial and Business Park in Katuugo, Nakasongola District.

The land, formerly owned by Katuugo Training Centre, was initially allocated to the National Enterprise Corporation (NEC) for agricultural purposes before being repurposed for the cutting-edge Bio-Scientific Industrial Park.

Rt. Hon. Nabbanja underscored the park’s potential to boost employment and economic growth in the region.

She assured the local community that critical infrastructure, including water and electricity, would be provided to enhance development.

Hon. Dr Monica Musenero, Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation, highlighted the park’s focus on research, human and animal tissue banking, and the production of advanced medical organs and pharmaceuticals.

Lt. Gen. James Mugira, Managing Director of NEC, described the facility as a one-stop hub for industries, offering business processing services and government investment incentives.

He confirmed that NEC Works & Engineering Ltd, a subsidiary of NEC, would spearhead the construction.

The park will feature five specialized zones: Medical Technology Industries, Light Manufacturing, Agricultural Processing, Heavy Manufacturing, and the Pathogen Economy Biosciences Park, positioning Uganda as a key player in bioscience innovation.
