Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has sent out a strong warning against exam malpractice ahead of Primary Leaving Examinations which kick off Tuesday, November 8, 2022.
Schools on Monday briefed Primary Seven candidates. The briefing was conducted by head teachers of the different schools.
According to UNEB Spokesperson, Jennifer Kalule, 832,810 candidates from 14,153 centres will sit for their PLE this year.
She revealed that this is an 11.1% increase from the number of pupils who sat for the same exams last year.
“70.1% of these candidates are sponsored by the government under the Universal Primary Education program,” she said.
She noted that this is a sign of confidence in the UPE program.
The exams come against the backdrop of several cases of exam malpractice from the ongoing UCE examinations.
Kalule warned candidates that if caught, it may lead to disqualification or cancellation of results.
She noted that exam malpractice involves smuggling unauthorized materials into the examination room, copying from one another, external assistance, prior knowledge and impersonation, and improper behaviour like threatening or attacking examination officials.
She said that anyone found will be charged in relation to the UNEB Act 2021. Kalule further retaliated that no papers leaked.
In the same vein, Jenga Uganda an association of patriotic Ugandans working in the education sector, wished all candidates best of luck in the upcoming Examinations.
They noted, “Dear candidates, as you sit for your national examinations, Jenna Uganda and General Muhoozi Kainerugaba would like to let you know that we’re behind you and cheering you on the finish line, you might be feeling stressed, overwhelmed, confused and tired but that is just a normal feeling.”
“in all this, know that Jenna Uganda and Gen Muhoozi, are all behind you all that way to the finish line,” said Charlotte Busingye the Chairperson Jenga Uganda.
