In a strong show of corporate social responsibility and cultural solidarity, Kansai Plascon Uganda has donated paint and materials worth UGX 50 million to the Buganda Kingdom to support the refurbishment of Bulange Mengo, the Kingdom’s central administrative and cultural seat.

The donation was officially handed over during a ceremony at Bulange, attended by the Katikkiro of Buganda, Owek. Charles Peter Mayiga, Plascon Uganda’s Managing Director, Mr. Santosh Gumte, Buganda Kingdom officials, and media members.

Now in the seventh year of partnership, Plascon and the Buganda Kingdom continue to collaborate on projects focused on heritage preservation, youth empowerment, and community development. This year’s contribution includes high-quality paint and a professional team to restore Bulange, ensuring it regains its original splendour.

“This is more than just a donation,” said Mr. Gumte. “It’s a contribution to the preservation of Buganda’s heritage. Bulange is a powerful symbol of culture and identity, and Plascon is honoured to play a role in safeguarding that legacy for future generations.”

Mr Gumte reaffirmed Plascon’s long-term vision of working with cultural institutions across Uganda to promote sustainable impact in sectors like health, education, agriculture, and sports. “Our partnership with Buganda goes beyond paint. It is about shared values, development, and empowering the communities that support us,” he added.

In his remarks, the Katikkiro praised Plascon for its consistent support and integrity. “Companies like Plascon are essential to Uganda’s future. They not only create jobs and contribute to the economy but also support culture and identity. Their commitment to paying taxes and supporting our initiatives speaks volumes,” said Owek. Mayiga.

He applauded Plascon’s involvement in revamping key landmarks such as Twekobe (the Kabaka’s palace), Butikkiro, and its support for cultural and sports events, including the Masaza Cup and Buddu FC.

“Plascon is more than a corporate sponsor — it is a true friend of the Kingdom,” the Katikkiro stated. “Their contributions go beyond products; they reflect empathy, purpose, and a shared vision.”

Plascon has played a key role in sports development within the Kingdom. It continues to support the Masaza Cup, a grassroots football tournament that unites youth from all 18 counties of Buganda and serves as a breeding ground for national talent. The company also sponsors Buddu FC, the reigning Masaza Cup champions, reaffirming its commitment to youth empowerment through sports.

Looking ahead, Mr. Gumte pledged continued collaboration with Buganda to preserve its heritage, invest in young people, and strengthen community structures. “Together, we will build, protect, and celebrate the legacy of this great Kingdom,” he concluded.
