Nakawa — Makerere University Business School (MUBS) lit up with color, rhythm, and tradition as thousands of students, staff, and guests gathered for the much-anticipated annual MUBS Cultural Gala at the university’s main campus.

Held under the theme “Rooted in Tradition and Growing Towards Sustainability,” the 2025 edition was a powerful celebration of Uganda’s ethnic diversity, cultural pride, and the role of heritage in shaping a sustainable future.

Over 40 cultural groups participated, each showcasing their unique traditions through music, dance, attire, drama, and cuisine.

The gala’s highlight was the fierce and captivating Edonga dance by the Karamojong, whose high-flying leaps, rhythmic stomps, and vibrant beaded attire brought the crowd to its feet, symbolizing the resilience of their pastoral roots.

This year’s Top 10 Cultural Showcases, ranked on creativity, authenticity, and audience impact, were: Acholi, Lango, Bakiga, Karimojong, Baganda, South Sudanese, Iteso, Bamasaba, Banyoro and a representation of the Great Arua peoples.

Sponsored by Coca-Cola Beverages Uganda, the event also featured interactive experience zones, complimentary refreshments, and electrifying live performances by Ugandan music stars Vinka and Fik Fameica, who kept the energy soaring.

Beyond performances, the gala included cultural exhibitions, fashion parades, and traditional cuisine tastings, making it both an entertaining and educational experience.

As the sun set on the 2025 MUBS Cultural Gala, one message stood clear: our cultural heritage is more than a celebration—it’s a compass guiding us toward unity, identity, and sustainable development in a globalizing world.
