The Late Ambassador Dr Hassan Wasswa Galiwango has been laid to rest at his ancestral home in Budaka district.
He was Uganda’s High Commissioner to the Republic of Kenya and Seychelles and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Environment Programme and UN-HABITAT.
Dr Galiwango died at Nairobi Hospital in Kenya at the start of this week.
The Vice President, H.E. Jessica Alupo, attended the burial where she addressed thousands of mourners.
“On behalf of President Museveni, I joined thousands of mourners at the send-off of our departed colleague Dr Hassan Galiwango, who passed on in Nairobi,” she said.
She added: “Dr Galiwango served our country with dedication and humility and had a lot more contribution to make. Eternal repose for his soul.”
Tributes
East African ministers and ambassadors paid tribute to the late Dr Galiwango at the Uganda High Commission in Nairobi.
H.E. Joyce Kapampa Kasosa, the Zambian High Commissioner to Kenya, was among those who signed the official condolence book at the Uganda High Commission-Nairobi in honour of the Late.
Amb. Dr John Stephen Simbachawene, the High Commissioner of the United Republic of Tanzania, also signed the official condolences book in honour of the Late Dr Galiwango.
Other East African ministers and ambassadors who paid tribute to Dr Galiwango include; Rt. Hon Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga, 1st Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of EAC for Uganda, Hon. Damas Ndumbaru, Minister of Justice for Tanzania, Secretary General of EAC Dr Peter Mathuki, Permanent Secretary EAC ministry Kenya, Mr Abdi Dubat, Professor Nshuti Mwanase Minister of EAC for Rwanda, H.E Amb Nyakeru Kalunga John, the Ambassador of Congo in Kenya, Hon. Deng Minister of EAC for South Sudan and Hon. Ezekiel Ndibagira, Minister of EAC for Burundi and the Chair of the Council.
Dr Galiwango will be remembered for his role in further strengthening the bilateral relations between Uganda and Kenya, especially in the promotion of commercial and economic diplomacy.
