The Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU) has officially released the results of the August 2025 Certified Public Accountant (CPA(U)) examinations at a ceremony held at Skyz Hotel, Naguru, Kampala. The announcement showcased an overall increase in performance, celebrated top achievers, and provided guidance for candidates planning to continue their professional journey.
CPA Nancy Amuge Owino, Chairperson of the Professional Accountants Examination Board (PAEB), highlighted efforts to improve tuition and student engagement, noting, “In July 2025, we held a training of trainers workshop. This will now be annual, ensuring stronger teaching for CPA(U) candidates.”
CPA Owino also highlighted initiatives for foreign accountancy qualification holders: “Between 21–25 July, we held the final masterclass with 61 participants. All completed successfully, and we now invite them to apply for ICPAU membership.” She emphasised the importance of ongoing student engagement: “We’ve held two sessions since the May exams and will hold more in October for December candidates. These interventions are free and virtual.”

The August 2025 exams, conducted from 25–29 August in Kampala, saw 4,249 candidates sit for 6,087 scripts. CPA Owino announced that the overall pass rate rose to 36.4%, compared to 31% in the previous year. “Levels II and IV showed strong gains, while Level III declined slightly,” she said.
Among subject-specific improvements, Financial Reporting increased by 29.7%, Management Decision & Control by 26.7%, and Advanced Financial Reporting by 15.4%. However, she acknowledged declines in Quantitative Techniques, Strategy & Governance, Audit Practice, and Advanced Taxation, promising to address these in upcoming student engagements.
Gender representation remained a notable highlight. Female candidates constituted 57.3% of all participants, submitted the majority of scripts, and achieved a higher pass rate (37.3%) than their male counterparts (35.1%). CPA Owino remarked, “Women dominated the top positions; 14 of the 21 subject toppers were female. This is a powerful milestone for women in accountancy.”
The age distribution of successful candidates showed that 68.6% of passes came from individuals aged 25–34 years. CPA Owino encouraged younger aspirants: “We urge young people to start the CPA journey early to maximise its benefits, support businesses, and contribute to Uganda’s economic growth.”
Celebrating individual achievers, she listed top performers across all levels, including Esher Treasure Kirabo in Financial Accounting, Gloria Ngabirombo in Integration of Knowledge, and Allan Senfuma topping Level IV overall.
She also highlighted course completions: “97 students completed the CPA course this diet, up from 80 last year. Of these, 57 were female. The cumulative total now stands at 5,580 graduates.”
ICPAU CEO and Secretary, CPA Derick Nkajja, reinforced the flexible nature of the CPA(U) course. “The CPA(U) course is modular and flexible. Candidates can progress at their own pace, even taking breaks before returning to complete. This ensures no one is left behind in their professional journey,” he said.

He encouraged early engagement, emphasising that applying knowledge to real business challenges not only drives careers but also strengthens Uganda’s economy.
ICPAU President, CPA Timothy David Ediomu, praised the efforts of examiners, invigilators, Secretariat staff, and media teams. “Heartfelt thanks to examiners, invigilators, Secretariat staff, and media teams for ensuring smooth delivery of the August 2025 exams. Your commitment is the backbone of our profession,” he said.
CPA Ediomu urged candidates who did not pass to persevere: “To those who attempted the August exams but did not pass, know that perseverance is key. December offers another opportunity to achieve your CPA dreams.”

Finalists can now join as Associate members of ICPAU while fulfilling requirements for full membership. “Full membership is open to all eligible candidates. Apply now to enjoy the full benefits of being a CPA and be part of a prestigious global network,” CPA Ediomu added.
The August 2025 results reflect not only academic achievement but a growing commitment to fostering professional excellence, gender equity, and lifelong learning in Uganda’s accountancy profession.
