Mrs. Lumonya, an accomplished corporate governance leader, will serve a four-year term from 2025 to 2029, in line with the Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions Act (UOTIA), Cap. 262, and the MUBS Council Charter (2024).

She becomes one of the few women in Uganda to chair the governing body of a major higher education institution.

Alongside her, Mr. James Mwesigye was appointed as Vice Chairperson of Council. Both elections were uncontested and conducted within the legal frameworks outlined under Sections 39(1), 39(2), and 42(4) of UOTIA, and Section 3.6 of the MUBS Council Charter (2024).

In her acceptance remarks, Mrs. Lumonya expressed gratitude for the confidence placed in her leadership and pledged to steer the institution towards achieving its strategic objectives under MUBS Vision 2030.

“I am honored to serve at a time when the institution is focused on innovation, relevance, and strengthening governance structures to align with Uganda’s National Development Plan IV,” she said.

New Council Committees Appointed

During the same meeting, the Council approved the establishment of five Standing Committees to support its governance and operational oversight functions in line with Section 43 of UOTIA and Chapter V of the MUBS Council Charter (2024).

The following individuals were appointed as Chairpersons of the respective Committees:

Appointments Board – Mr. Justus Karuhanga

Justus Karuhanga

Finance, Planning and General Purposes Committee – Eng. Isaac Ngobya

Students Affairs Committee – Mr. Moses Mugisha Okwera

Audit and Risk Management Committee – Mr. Edward Kiwanuka

Meritorious Awards Committee – Prof. Moses Muhwezi, Principal of MUBS

These appointments reflect MUBS Council’s continued emphasis on transparency, accountability, and inclusivity in its governance structures, as it prepares for the 2025/2026 Academic Year.

In a statement, the Public Relations Office noted, “These resolutions signal the Council’s commitment to institutional strengthening and sound governance, ensuring that MUBS remains a leader in business and management education in Uganda and beyond.”
