The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces [UPDF] has expressed deep sorrow at the demise of Brigadier Geoffrey Kyabihende Taban who passed on this morning at Nakasero hospital – Kampala after a natural illness.
Brig Taban had since May 2014 been Uganda’s Defence Attaché to the Democratic Republic of Congo.
“He has been an illustrious, highly trained, dedicated officer and a gentleman whose services will greatly be missed by the UPDF fraternity,” UPDF Spokesperson, Brig Richard Karemire, said in an obituary.
According to Karemire, Brig Taban was a Company Commander in 3rd Battalion under Col Lumumba at the time of the NRA/NRM liberation of Uganda in 1986 and rose to the level of Brigade and Division Commander in various NRA/UPDF units and formations during his time of service.
He was the Director Liaison NRA/British Military Training Team (BMTT), Deputy Camp Commandant and Chairman Division Court Martial – Land Force Headquarter – Bombo and Cantonment Commander Magamaga.
“Our deepest condolences go to his family and relatives. May the soul of Brigadier General Geoffrey Kyabihende Taban Rest in Eternal Peace.”
Karemire said burial arrangements for the fallen General will be announced later.
Brig Taban hails from Kazo District.
