Former Minister for ICT Nyombi Thembo has been appointed as the Executive Director of Uganda Communications Commission (UCC).
Thembo takes over from Irene Kaggwa who has been serving in acting capacity.
“Wish to update you that Hon. George William Thembo has been appointed as the substantive Executive Director of UCC, Join me in congratulating him on his appointment. On my part it has been an honour to serve UCC, the sector, my country & the global industry,” Kaggwa announced on her official X (formerly) Twitter.
Prior to his appointment, Thembo has been heading the Uganda Communications Universal Services Access Fund (UCUSAF), formerly known as Rural Communications Development Fund (RCDF) at UCC.
Nyombi was elected to the Ugandan Parliament in 2001, representing Kassanda County South in Mubende District (2001-2015).
He has also served as State Minister for primary education in the Ministry of Education and Sports (2001-2009), State Minister for Luwero Triangle in the Office of the Prime Minister (2009-2011) and State Minister for Information and Communications Technology (2011-15).
