The NRM Electoral Commission has confirmed that the party’s primary elections will proceed as earlier scheduled on Thursday, 17th this week.
This was announced during a press conference addressed by the Commission’s Chairman, Dr. Tanga Odoi, who dismissed media reports suggesting a postponement to next week.
“There have been many rumours claiming that the elections were postponed. I want to make it clear — the elections for Members of Parliament will take place this Thursday, 17th, across all 72,000 villages,” Dr. Tanga Odoi stated. “To all candidates, please prepare according to the guidelines we issued.”

On polling day, members are expected to assemble at the designated venues by 10:00 am, during which attendance will be confirmed through a roll call. Voting will take place between 12:00 noon and 2:00 pm. Eligible voters will cast their votes by lining up behind the posters or agents of their preferred candidates.
The NRM Secretary General, Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong emphasised that only those whose names appear on the village register will be permitted to vote.
“If you are a candidate, don’t disqualify yourself by assuming there is no register. Every village will have its register by Thursday morning, and we shall strictly use it to elect our leaders. If your name is not on the register, you will not participate,” Todwong clarified.

He further revealed that the party registers are currently being distributed to all districts, from where they will be delivered to sub-counties and villages in readiness for the polls.
Todwong also cautioned candidates against exploiting religious, tribal sentiments or using money to influence voters.
“We have received reports of some candidates using religion, tribalism, and money to divide our people. We want to warn them to stop. Our party members should conduct themselves civilly and respect one another,” he warned.
Electoral Guidelines
After the vote count, the presiding officer at each village will publicly announce the results and issue a Declaration of Results form, which must be signed by the agents of all candidates present.
