President Yoweri Museveni has assured Ugandans that state agencies have initiated anti-crime actions against individuals who committed electoral offenses during the recent National Resistance Movement (NRM) primaries.
“The state agencies of Uganda have started taking necessary actions against these self-seekers,” Museveni said, adding that they will begin with clear cases of result tampering.
The President revealed that eight individuals have been arrested from various districts, including Mayuge, Buyende, Kapchorwa, Pader, Oyam, Rwampara, Kareenga, and Mbarara. He noted that other suspects are being pursued and vowed to keep the public informed.
He also called for evidence of other electoral offenses, such as violence, bribery, and tampering with voter registers. To address petitions arising from the primaries, the President has constituted a committee of powerful lawyers.
“We shall clean up the NRM while defending the broader interests of all Ugandans,” Museveni emphasized
