National Resistance Movement (NRM) District Chairpersons under their umbrella body, the NRM district Chairperson Forum, have endorsed President Yoweri Museveni as the 2026 party presidential candidate.

These say that President Museveni still holds the NRA/NRM vision that will realize the prosperity of Uganda and the Federation of the East African Community.

Addressing the press at Kati Kati restaurant in Kampala on behalf of over 100 party chairpersons that gathered, Hajji Kiganda Twaha Ssonko said: “We woke up with total support for Museveni as our presidential candidate for 2026; we will mobilize for President Museveni now and beyond.”

He noted that they want to consolidate the peace and the development the NRM government, under the leadership of President Museveni, has achieved.

The calls come against a backdrop of similar endorsements from party members and leaders amidst rumours that President Museveni’s son, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, also wants to contest for presidency come 2026.

These say that Muhoozi is an outsider in the party and they won’t allow him and his group to just disorganize and divide the party.

Medi Mulumba, the NRM chairperson NRM in Luuka District, noted that there are some opportunists who are fronting other candidates to confuse party supporters, disguising themselves as supporters of Gen Muhoozi.

He noted that this could also give an opportunity for the opposition to consolidate support on NRM grounds come 2026.

The chairpersons also thanked Alhajji Moses Kigongo and Secretary-General, Richard Todwong, for the clear stewardship of the party.

Recently, NRM Youth in Buganda endorsed President Museveni under the slogan “Mzee tova ku main”.
