The National Planning Authority (NPA) has projected a steady increase of Covid-19 cases in Uganda.
In the last five weeks ending November 12, 2022, Uganda recorded a total of 77 new COVID-19 cases.
However, according to NPA projections, the number of new cases for Uganda is likely to increase but expected to remain relatively low over the next two weeks with the model projecting a total of 82 new cases for the week ending November 19, 2022 and 107 for the week ending November 26, 2022.
This comes at a time neighboring countries like Kenya and the Democratic Republic of Congo are experiencing a steady increase in new cases over the same period.
In the last week alone, Kenya recorded 700 cases, an 18% weekly increase and DRC 248, an 86% increase.
“For all the three countries; Uganda, DRC and Kenya, the factors that influence the increase in number are from within their borders,” said Dr Joseph Muvawala, the NPA Executive Director.
He added: “Nonetheless, there is need to keep watch on the developments of COVID cases in Kenya and DRC.”
Model projections and reported cases
On the continental outlook, the overall new cases have been at a weekly average of 5,821 with an increase from 5,217 to 6,570 cases.
Only six countries recorded weekly increases of more than 100 cases. 61% of the countries recorded a decrease in new cases.
South Africa, Kenya, Morocco and Cameroon recorded the highest number of weekly new cases (3,445, 700, 596 and 364, respectively).
