Hip hop artistes across Northern Uganda are warming up to pay tribute to the late rapper, Patrick Lumumba alias Lumix Da Don who passed on three years ago as a result of liver failure.

Lumix who died on July 13, 2015 at age 37 was not just a big name in the music industry in Northern Uganda, but also inspirational to other musicians.

To many, Lumix was an underground Ugandan rapper and budding record producer who boasted of great songs under his studio Valley Curve Recordz where he personally worked. He was instrumental in giving a hand to some of the best Ugandan hiphop artists now in the spot light.

Judas Rapknowledge equated as the baddest rapper across northern Uganda and a former member of Valley Curve is one of such great talents Lumix inspired. The other is Acholi Rapper, Lobby and Allan Smokie who revered Lumix and considered him a brother.

All the above-mentioned artistes will be joined by rappers like Sammy Cast, Musiolini, Preacher Man and Mc Twich among others to keep the lyrical power of hiphop alive even after Lumix is long gone.

Despite his popularity in the North where he hailed from, in the central part of Uganda, Lumix kept a low profile around Ntinda where he lived. However, he remained famous among his old school emcees and some of his hardest hiphop fans.

Lumix’s songs like, Try, Owek Acam So Naa, Easy, and Yeng Kumi in the singles category which he performed free style wherever he stepped on stage continue to play on the airwaves to date.

Since his death, there has been a number of build-up activities to keep his legacy alive, for example on 15 July 2015 the native artists organized a car wash event as a fundraiser to set up a Foundation in his honour.

On the same day, a football match between artistes and radio presenters was held at Pece memorial stadium and climaxed with a concert at Da Link Garden with all given to the family.

During his burial, promises were made to name a street after him and a picture installed in the District Council Hall given his stand as one of the greatest musical exports from the region, but all this is yet to come to fruition.

Several tribute songs have been recorded in memory of Lumix, notable among them, that by Gulu All-stars.

Those intending to be part of the Lumix Memorial Concert will have to find their way to DaLink Garden with only three thousand shillings to be able to contribute to the legacy of Lumix as well as have fun.
