President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has warned that the National Resistance Movement (NRM) government will not tolerate any attempts to destabilise the country.
“There’s no place for chaos in Uganda,” he said on Sunday, December 14, 2025, during a meeting at State Lodge Nakasero, Kampala, where he welcomed several National Unity Platform (NUP) parliamentary candidates who recently crossed to the ruling party.
Among those who joined NRM were Ojangole Anthony, NUP Chairperson for Pallisa and MP aspirant for Agule County, and Godfrey Kateu, NUP Secretary General for Pallisa District and MP contestant for Pallisa County.
President Museveni welcomed the newcomers to the party, commending them for their foresight and decision to embrace NRM’s ideology.
“You’re welcome to the NRM,” he said, adding that the 2026 general elections will be free and fair. He also cautioned Ugandan youth against being manipulated by opposition figures to incite violence.
“Some youth in the opposition have gone ahead to form gangs, ‘egaali,’ to cause chaos. We shall crush those gangs. People should focus on mobilising their communities to vote peacefully rather than encouraging violence,” he warned.
The President also lauded Deputy Speaker Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa and Special Presidential Assistant on Press and Mobilisation Haji Faruk Kirunda, for actively promoting NRM ideology across the country.
Haji Kirunda, who led the delegation of new NRM members, informed President Museveni that many other opposition candidates are considering crossing to the ruling party due to its “correct ideology and exceptional leadership.”
Speaking on behalf of the converts, Ojangole Anthony revealed that they had previously been encouraged to incite chaos during elections but chose to reject violence in favour of peace.
“Our leaders were telling us to cause chaos and bloodshed during elections, but after thorough consideration, we decided we cannot take part in destructive activities. The NRM has been building this country for the last 40 years,” he said.
“I call upon my fellow Ugandans to refrain from listening to selfish individuals who want to destroy our country and instead pursue change peacefully and lawfully through free and fair elections.”
The meeting was attended by prominent NRM leaders, including Rt. Hon. Tayebwa, Pallisa RDC Majid Dhikusooka, NRM flag bearer for Gogonya County, Pallisa District NRM Chairperson Hon. Derrick Orone, and NRM flag bearer for Pallida County Ibrahim Aisu, among others.
This meeting highlights NRM’s ongoing efforts to consolidate support ahead of the 2026 elections while emphasising peaceful electoral participation and national stability.
