The National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) has cautioned the public about fraudsters offering fake “express” national ID services online.
According to NIRA, the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has been notified about the scam and is taking steps to block the fraudulent website.
“We currently do not have any express services. Beware of fraudulent websites purporting to do so,” NIRA said in a message on X (formerly Twitter).
The authority urges the public to avoid falling victim to such schemes and to use only official NIRA channels when applying for or renewing their national identification cards.
Meanwhile, the National ID mass enrollment and renewal program has officially launched across all the district offices, with the issuance of new cards already underway.
“Mass enrollment and mass renewal National ID cards ‘have come’ to all our district offices, and issuance has commenced.”
