In a significant step toward environmental restoration and sustainable development, TotalEnergies EP Uganda and the National Forestry Authority (NFA) have officially launched a tree planting initiative aimed at restoring 38 hectares of degraded forest land within the Jubiya Central Forest Reserve (CFR) in Masaka City.
The initiative commenced with the planting of 450 indigenous tree seedlings, marking the beginning of a long-term collaboration to regenerate forest cover, enhance biodiversity, and combat climate change.
The project aligns with Uganda’s broader vision of environmental resilience and complements the NFA’s strategic plan to green the country’s forest landscape.
Speaking at the launch, Nekesa Esther, Range Manager at the NFA, said the partnership exemplifies the multi-stakeholder collaboration needed to restore Uganda’s natural resources.
“It supports our strategic objectives and reinforces our commitment to sustainable forest management,” she stated.
The team from TotalEnergies reiterated its pledge to environmental stewardship through meaningful action.
“Sustainability is at the core of our operations, and reforestation initiatives like this are essential to achieving our climate goals while creating long-term value for communities and ecosystems,”
Juliet Mubi the NFA-PRO emphasized that the partnership between TotalEnergies and NFA reflects a growing recognition of the private sector’s role in environmental conservation.
She added, “This underscores the importance of aligning corporate sustainability strategies with national and global climate targets.”
