The National Drug Authority has arrested three suspects who were found in illegal possession of government of Uganda drugs and medical equipment suspected to been stolen from Kitgum General Hospital.
The government stores worth over Shs1.5bn were recovered from two drug shops owned by Akena Robert, a pharmacy technician of Kitgum Hospital.
According to NDA, Akena is currently on the run but two of his accomplices; Rubang Ken James and Odong Christopher were arrested.
NDA also arrested Kenneth Wanon, a laboratory technician at the same hospital.
He was found with several boxes of drugs including those belonging to government of Uganda at his home.
The two are being held at Kitgum and Gulu Central Police Stations and will be charged with illegal possession of classified drugs and illegal possession of government stores.
Furthermore, NDA has tasked the hospital administration to institute a forensic audit saying there is no way such consignments could have left the hospital stores without the aid of several other staff.
