Telangana, India  — Uganda’s pride and reigning Miss Uganda, Natasha Nyonyozi, took centre stage at the grand opening ceremony of the 72nd Miss World pageant in Telangana, India, capturing hearts with a stunning national costume inspired by Uganda’s crowned crested crane — the national bird and a powerful symbol of grace, strength, and forward movement.

Held at the iconic Gachibowli Stadium, the opening ceremony marked the official kickoff of the global beauty event, with contestants from over 109 countries showcasing their cultures in a vibrant display of elegance and unity.

As of 12 May 2025, 108 contestants are confirmed. Among them, Nyonyozi stood out, draped in a striking ensemble.

“My national costume embodied the crowned crested crane, a key symbol in Ugandan culture, symbolising grace, beauty and strength. The crane’s raised leg signifies progress and forward movement,” she said.

Her costume featured rich black, yellow, and red hues reflecting the Ugandan flag, and wings that echoed the poised, regal stance of the crested crane — leg lifted, signalling progress and determination.

“Once upon a time, from the heart of Uganda, the Pearl of Africa. Rose a symbol of grace and pride. Draped in black, yellow, and red, I carry my culture like wings. I am Natasha Nyonyozi.” The look was a showstopper, drawing widespread admiration online and in the arena.

“It was a great privilege to represent Uganda at the 72nd Miss World opening ceremony,” Nyonyozi said. “My costume embodied the crowned crested crane, a key symbol in Ugandan culture — a reminder of our beauty, strength, and the elegance we carry as a people.”

Nyonyozi’s presence lit up the international stage with style, poise, and pride. As she walked with Uganda’s flag and shared her story with the world, social media lit up with praise, calling her “a symbol of grace and pride,” and “a true queen of the Pearl of Africa.”

Miss Uganda pageant, one of Uganda’s leading achievement programs for young women, also celebrated the moment, tweeting: “Queen @NatashaNyonyozi has absolutely slayed it! Her breathtaking national costume embodies the essence of Ugandan culture—elegance, strength & progress.”

Uganda’s consulate in Guangzhou, China, led by Ambassador Judyth Nsababera, has also shown immense support for the Queen’s journey, reinforcing Uganda’s global cultural presence.

The Miss World Festival, themed “Beauty with a Purpose,” runs throughout May, with the grand finale set for May 31 at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre, where Krystyna Pyszková of the Czech Republic will crown her successor.

From the heart of the Pearl of Africa to the world stage — I stand proud to represent the beauty, strength, and spirit of Uganda at Miss World 2025.
