The Secretary General for the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), Hon Nathan Nandala Mafabi, has dismissed Kira Municipality Member of Parliament (MP), Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda, as the party’s chief whip.
The dismissal is contained in a letter addressed to the Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among.
In the same letter, Mafabi appointed Mawokota South MP, Yusuf Nsibambi, as the new whip with immediate effect.
“In accordance with section 6 (I), the party hereby appoints Hon. Yusuf Nsibambi as the Party Whip of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) to replace Hon Ssemujju Ibrahim Nganda,” the letter reads in part, adding:
“In the same vein, we now withdraw Ssemujju Ibrahim Nganda as the Party Whip with immediate effect.”
The dismissal comes at a backdrop of an internal friction in the party with a section led by Nganda accusing the Najjanankumbi establishment of receiving “dirty money” for the 2021 general elections and campaigns.
However, the allegations have been rubbished by Mafabi and the Party President, Patrick Amuriat Oboi, as “baseless”.
Responding to his sacking, Nganda alleged that Nandala was working on orders of President Museveni because he had become a thorn in the shoe.
He said he was not moved by the sacking as his main objective and role in Parliament is to represent the people of Kira Municipality who sent him to Parliament.
“This was just a matter of time because in our earlier meeting, Amuriat (FDC President) told FDC MPs that Semujju is outshining you. So, I think it’s just given that Museveni, would tell him that I no longer want Ssemujju, he is causing me too much trouble.”
He said he was elected as a chief whip by the party’s National Executive Committee, arguing that Amuriat and Nandala have no rights to sack him like they have done.
Nganda also watered the appointment noting that there is nothing special in being the chief whip of FDC.
He explained that his sacking has been long coming even before the elections, accusing Amuriat of being so incompetent.
