CAF cleared both Namboole and St. Mary’s Kitende stadiums to host the forthcoming Champions League and Confederation Cup matches.

In May, CAF permitted the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) to host International Matches at the refurbished national stadium.

During the renovations, 800 Ugandans were deployed, including 600 UPDF soldiers and 200 skilled workers specialising in plumbing, electrical wiring, landscaping, painting, roofing, installations, and tiling.

The renovation project increased the stadium’s seating capacity to 38,000.

Smart solutions were installed at the stadium, including digital tickets linked to seats, surveillance cameras, a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) centre, and LED screens.

On June 7 and 10, Uganda hosted Botswana and Algeria in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers, respectively at Namboole.

Uganda Premier League champions SC Villa will represent Uganda in the CAF Champions League while Kitara FC will take part in the CAF Confederation Cup.
